Hello! My name is FawksPlays. I am a variety vtuber that streams (albeit infrequently) on Twitch. I'm also a digital artist on the website, VGen, where I've been accepting paid commissions since 2024.
I actually started off as a game designer. I was working on creating a fan remake of the original .Hack//IMOQ series - named .Hack//V1RU5 - through simple game programs like RPG Maker MZ.
The only problem was that I was working on making a FREE game, and the types of images and game assets I needed were costing me $100~$150 USD per asset.
I have always been interested in creating art. During the 2020 Pandemic, I decided to actually pursue art as a legitimate hobby.
I started off by posting my sketches within the vtuber space. I'd post a sketch and say that if people left their OCs, maybe I'd draw them. It was an excellent way to begin growing a following, as well as develop my artistic skills.
I am entirely self-taught - I do not have a background in art or animation. I simply have a habit of doodling and one day I decided to begin developing those skills further.

I am in the process of saving up to purchase a newer ipad. Unfortunately, my current ipad is incredibly limited on space. Due to the space restriction, I've had to inform all my clients that screen recordings cost extra as I'm required to spend time offloading files onto a USB or deleting older files.
My goal is to purchase an ipad pro with 1TB of storage and increased internal RAM, so that I can deliver art timelapses along with my commissions free of charge.
I mainly used Twitter/X to grow my audience and showcase my art.
Initially, I'd planned to just go slowly and have fun with things. I started making friends within the space, and those friends began asking about commissions.
Around the time I hit 400 followers, I had already been asked by several friends and creators within the vtuber space about taking on commissions and I began to think that taking doing some paid jobs could be fun.
I originally created a Ko-Fi so that I could take commissions and accept donations from people who wanted to give back in some way.
Unfortunately, that didn't last long. I found Ko-Fi to be an incredibly restrictive platform that wouldn't allow certain kinds of content. When my Ko-Fi account got suspended for creating more "spicy" images, I realized that it wasn't the place for me.
Luckily, a friend reached out and let me know about a new website called VGen.

YES! I have many VGen codes and am willing to share them with artists who meet the following criteria:
1. Must have AT LEAST 200 followers on any social media account of your choice (twitter, instagram, bluesky, etc)
2. Must have a clear outline of 1-5 commissions you will offer, what timeframe you will deliver in, and what you intend to charge
3. Must have AT LEAST 10 completed pieces of art to use as portfolio showcase pieces
4. Must have a clear idea of a terms of service (ToS) and how you will structure your forms for new clients to submit requests (We will discuss this when you message me)
5. Must have read my mega guide on twitter, which details out everything you'll need to do within a 30-day time period to get verified on VGen SEE THE THREAD HERE!
NOPE! - I am not a furry, am not a part of the furry community and have never been a part of that crowd.
When I started off streaming, I chose the name "Fawks_". Unfortunately, the name "Fawks" was taken.
Eventually, the underscore became annoying and I didn't want to use numbers in my name.
Since I was playing games, I decided to choose the name "FawksPlays".
When I entered the vtuber space, I decided to make my character be a fox to match the name.
While my character has had some design changes over the years, I have never (and likely will never) rebrand or change my name.
That being said - No, I am NOT a furry!
I live in California, so the minimum wage and cost of my time are much higher than other places in the world. I do my best to price my pieces competitively, but I need to justify the use of my time.
I'm always willing to work with clients on a budget, refer them to other artists with a similar skillset or cheaper commissions, or offer milestone payment plans.
As much as I love making art, it is a hobby for me and would never be able to cover my cost of living.
I also try my best to ensure that I deliver works within a strict 1-month turnaround time.
IF I KNOW IN ADVANCE THAT I WON'T BE ABLE TO GIVE YOUR PIECE THE CARE AND ATTENTION IT DESERVES, THEN I WON'T TAKE THE COMMISSION
If I were to turn art into my fulltime job, I would need to consistently complete around 4 commissions per day in order to maintain the same quality of life.
Considering each commission can take anywhere from 4-7 hours to complete, it's simply not possible for me to make art a full-time operation.
Nope! In fact, I believe it's the opposite - you SHOULDN'T do art every single day.
If you're starting to feel burnt out or get art block...then listen to your body. Take a break. Go touch grass. Come back rested and refreshed and with new ideas in mind.
Anytime I'm feeling burnt out or just don't feel like doing art, I make it a point to make sure I don't force it.
There are three different types of art:
1. Art you do for commissions
2. Art you do to grow
3. Art you do for fun
In my mind, fanart satisfies two of those three types of art.
Fanart lets me have something to do, without any set deadline, without the presence of money or reviews swaying my thought process, and without the thought of letting someone down if they don't like it.
Just because I have commissions in progress, doesn't mean I'm going to devote every second of my time to working on those commissions.
I do work to deliver commissions as quickly as possible, but it's important to take breaks and work on other things as well so that details don't get missed.
The black border is something I came up with to differentiate the art from the background and make it really "POP".
I put a border on ALL of my pieces, but it's always on a separate layer.
If you ever want to piece WITHOUT the border, or for the border to be in a different color, just let me know. I will never take offense.
IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!
The people in my blacklist are those that have done something, said something or acted in a certain way that made me not want to continue working with them.
That being said - I don't make a habit of speaking poorly of people. So I don't publicize the list of people I refuse to work with.
In the past I did giveaways and raffles, but I've since come to realize that those are not good to do.
For the people that win a giveaway - They want their commission to be the top priority. They want it to be finished immediately and since they haven't paid anything, a lot of times, they feel entitled to making tons of additional requests and revisions.
For me as the artist - Running a giveaway is good for exposure and getting my name out there. But not good for my brand or business after the raffle is over.
Raffles and giveaways are basically payment by exposure. No artist can live off exposure. So I tend to stick with just doing fanart.

I have over 50 servers I am a member in, and I am active in MAYBE 3 of them.
Please don't take it as any offense. I simply am too busy IRL and with my commissions to be an active member. So please don't invite me to your server.

SKETCH PHASE You may make ANY alterations or adjustments to the pose, proportions, hairstyle, features, etc. I always reach out at this phase (unless you commissioned a SKEB piece) to ensure we get everything correct and set.
LINEART PHASE You may make MINOR changes, such as hairstyle, accessories, minor clothing tweaks. You may NOT change: Pose, hand placement, gender. If you request a major change at this phase, I will charge you a revision fee (which must be paid before work continues) and there will be some delays to delivery.
FINISHING PHASE You may request changes like color and simply highlighting. If you request major changes at this phase, it will NOT be accepted.
ADDING SOMETHING AFTER DELIVERY... Unless we had discussed it previously in messages, I will NOT accommodate additions to the piece after delivery.
I will NEVER DM anyone to commission me.
I believe that soliciting yourself and begging for someone to commission you is the lowest possible point an artist can fall to.
I may reach out and OFFER to do a piece of fanart, but I will NEVER ask for payment in those instances.
If I ever reach out and beg someone to commission me, I hope they would send me a screenshot of this to remind me of how disgusting that practice is.
